Founded in 1923, Blaupunkt is a German company that specializes in the design and production of home and car audio components. They are best known for their high-performance radios currently found in automobiles such as Audi, Porsche and BMW. The word Blaupunkt is German for “blue dot” or “blue point” and comes from a blue dot that their quality control inspectors would add to a product after final inspection and approval. In the company’s early years customers would simply ask a retailer for the “bluepoint.” The brand was born.
